Food and beverage sites run two problems at once: hygiene that has to survive an audit, and equipment that has to survive a wash-down bay. Timber fails both. It absorbs moisture and product liquor, it splinters into product, and it cannot be cleaned to a standard an auditor will accept. Swan Material Supplies holds bulk bins, produce trays and rackable plastic pallets across five Australian warehouses, so replenishment runs from the facility nearest your site rather than across the country.

Everything in the range is moulded in one piece. There are no nails to work loose into product, no grain for bacteria to sit in, and no boards to fail under a loaded stack. Static, dynamic and racking loads are published on every line, so your team can specify against real figures instead of estimates.

The hygiene case is the obvious one, but the export case is just as strong. Timber packaging bound for international markets needs ISPM 15 heat treatment or fumigation, a treatment stamp and matching paperwork. Plastic sits outside ISPM 15 entirely, so finished product leaves without treatment cost and without the risk of a consignment being held at the destination port.

  • Non-porous surfaces that will not absorb water or product liquor
  • Washes down between product changes and between shifts
  • No splinters, nails or loose boards to contaminate product
  • Consistent dimensions every unit, which matters on automated lines
  • Will not swell, warp or grow mould moving between chiller and dock

Match ventilation to the load. Vented bins let air move through fresh produce so heat and moisture do not build up in the middle of the bin; solid-wall bins keep powders and granules contained and airborne contamination out. Where you wash down between product changes, a smooth internal wall matters more than capacity, because ribbed bins hold residue in every corrugation. For anything that bruises, a shallow tray keeps product in a thin layer with nothing crushing it from above. And specify racked stock against the racking figure, not the dynamic figure, since racking is the limiting condition with nothing supporting the deck underneath.

Full specifications, including dimensions, volume, load ratings, colour and minimum order quantity, are listed on every product page. Where your process requires documented food-contact certification, tell us which line you are specifying and we will confirm the certification status in writing before you order.

The Smooth Wall Bulk Bin 650L. Ribbed bins hold residue in every corrugation, so they need scrubbing into each one and still retain product. A smooth interior washes out in a pass and empties more completely, which cuts cleaning labour and removes a cross-contamination risk. It is also available in a range of colours, which suits colour-coding by allergen, shift or clean state.

Plastic does not absorb moisture or swell in cold storage, which is the common failure mode for timber in a chiller, and it holds its dimensions at temperature so automated handling stays predictable. Confirm the rated temperature range with our team for your specific freezing or icing process.

Vented for fresh produce, so air moves through the load and heat and moisture do not build up in the middle of the bin. Solid-wall for dry ingredients, powders and granules, so nothing sifts out and nothing blows in. Both are 755 litres on the same footprint with identical load ratings, so a mixed fleet handles the same way.

No. ISPM 15 applies to timber packaging only, so plastic pallets need no heat treatment, no fumigation and no treatment certificate, and consignments are not held at destination ports over pallet treatment.
